Draft

Will Hildebrand's New Orleans Saints Mock Draft 1.0

The Saints organization goes back to work after consecutive years of soul crushing defeats both unrivaled in terms of brutality and inexplicable obvious calls that weren’t. The football Gods have been akin to Athena’s treatment of Medusa, cursed for no reason, like our boys in black and gold. I will not jump into the NFL JFK NOLA NO CALL now but we all know that league officials stole that championship game from the Saints. I will try to move on so as hope springs eternal, the draft is like early Christmas for all teams.

Round 2 Pick 62 *** Trade ***

Saints trade 62 to Patriots for Round 3 (70), Round 4 (134), a Round 6 (205), and a massage therapist to be named later.

Round 3 Pick 70 – Andy Isabella WR UMASS

This guy can win with quickness but has long speed to get on top of defenders too. A tough competitor and excellent route runner, just a damn good football player. He can be Drew’s version of Edelman or Amendola, Saints would fill a huge need here.

Round 4 Pick 134 – Jace Sternberger TE Texas A&M

This guy is a seam stretcher with good hands and decent game speed. He didn’t exactly wow at the combine which is why he is still on the board here. New Orleans addresses this position here and in free agency in my opinion.

Round 5 Pick 168 – Jarrett Stidham QB Auburn

His 2018 season was a shell of the 2017 campaign, but he has some interesting traits. I think the Saints should draft a quarterback every year for the foreseeable future.

Round 6 Pick 177 – Kingsley Keke DT Texas A&M

Athletic with good bend but needs to be coached up. Can be a good rotational interior guy who can get pressure on the quarterback often.

Round 6 Pick 202 – Tony Pollard RB/ST Memphis

A versatile player who was perhaps the best return man in the country the last two or three years. A return specialist but also played running back, slot receiver, and even ran the wildcat.

Round 6 Pick 205 (from NE) – Corey Ballentine CB Washburn

Track star with plenty of speed, long and short. Played division two so will be a big step up in competition. Excellent on special teams had several blocked kicks as well as a dangerous returner.

Round 7 Pick 231 – Malik Grant S Marshall

Former walk-on who was named team defensive MVP. What else do you need to know? That alone is worth a late round flyer.

Round 7 Pick 244 – Joe Giles- Harris LB Duke

Instinctive player missed his last 4 games with an MCL sprain and was still All-ACC. Very productive guy could be a decent two-down option sooner than later.

The Saints have all they need to get to Miami… Again. The only thing I am dreading about the draft is looking at that red headed D-bag. Other than that it is one of my favorite sports events of every year..
