The Saints will take on a not so familiar opponent on Sunday. They will face off against the Jacksonville Jaguars for only the seventh time. The Saints lead the all time series at 4-2. There has been a lot of talk that this could be a potential “trap game” for the Saints. The Jaguars would love to have that happen as their season has been up and down since Nick Foles was injured in the first game. However, they have rookie Gardner Minshew whose appearance has taken the league by storm.
The history between these teams has been a fairly quiet one. There has never any bad blood or heated rivalry. In fact, the Jags have one of the few fan bases that the Who Dat Nation does not get into with. But the old saying goes, it is never too late to start something new. We shall see what happens after the game in Jacksonville.
The Saints took the very first game of this series back in 1996. The Jags would take the next two games, the second being one the Who Dat Nation would like to forget in a way. This game was when the famous River City Relay happened but ultimately was squandering by a missed John Carney extra point. Since then, the Saints have won the last three times in convincing fashion.
This game has the potential to be the most intense altogether. The Saints are riding high with Teddy Bridgewater running the offense. The Jaguars are riding the Minshew Mania train in hopes to get back at .500. I see this as the same mindset as Tampa, you do not know which team will show up. The Black & Gold should not look past this opponent with the Chicago Bears up next. If history tells us anything, it should be to expect the unexpected.
