It is the best week of the season! Falcons Hate Week! To top it off, we got to do it for two whole weeks this time. We all know that the Saints-Falcons rivalry is by far one of the most heated in the NFL. Fans constantly go back and forth with each other all year round. The players also understand it even if they are new to the team. The one thing we can guarantee is that these games are always intriguing no matter what.
The rivalry began in 1967 with the Saints taking the first match-up. The series is now up to 101 games with the Falcons leading 52-48. Both teams have had their fair share of win streaks over the last 52 years. Atlanta won the majority of the games before 2000. Since then, the Saints have gotten back on track to the record it is now.
Since 2006, Drew Brees and company have won 18 of the last 26 games. Last year, the Saints swept the season series. The first win came in Atlanta in dramatic fashion with Brees scoring two rushing touchdowns, including the game winner in overtime. The teams would battle on Thanksgiving for the first time and the Saints would once again show their dominance. Not to mention, four undrafted receivers caught a touchdown in that match-up. But it was the defense who sacked Matt Ryan five times and controlled majority of the game.
This time around, the Saints are flying high on a six game win streak. The Falcons have lost six games in a row and are headed for a downward spiral. They would love nothing more than pull off an upset on the road. But the Saints are fully healthy and will look to continue their winning ways. Not to mention, Coach Sean Payton just got engaged on Friday evening. He will definitely be looking for roasted dirty bird on his catering menu. Who Dat!
