Saints Sign Rishard Matthews, WR Battle Intensifies

After trying out during the team’s minicamp, Rishard Matthews has officially signed with the Saints. The corresponding move was waiving Travin Dural. Dural had shown some upside last season before a broken forearm ended his year early. He was hoping to finally make a case for a roster spot but it seems like a new team will work out for him at this point. We wish him nothing but the best in his search for a new squad.

Matthews has been in the league since 2012 and played four seasons with the Dolphins. He then signed with the Titans where he had his best year with 65 receptions, 945 yards and 9 touchdowns. Since then, Matthews has been on the decline with last playing for the Jets in 2018. With this signing, not only does it bring a veteran presence to a very young receiving corp, it intensifies the competition for would could be five or six spots.

For Matthews, it is an opportunity to prolong his career and hopefully become a part of the prolific offense of the Saints, if not for another team. The receiver battle this off-season is going to be fun to watch. The only question is will Dez Bryant be signed to make it even more exciting. We will have to wait until next month to see. Football is almost here again, Who Dat Nation.
