Games are won or lost in the trenches and the Saints offensive line has been a solid one throughout the Drew Brees era. No matter who has been at any position, they have found a way to keep Brees upright more times than not. Last year was one of the best yet and they are built for the future. This year, there will not be a lot of additions or subtractions unless something crazy happens. The most important part for this group is staying healthy throughout the year.
Tackles: Terron Armstead | Ryan Ramczyk | Jermon Bushrod (FA) | Michael Ola | Nate Wozniak (PS)
Guards: Andrus Peat | Larry Warford | Josh LeRibeus (FA) | Will Clapp
Centers: Max Unger (Retired) | Cameron Tom
The biggest thing for this group is the versatility they have going. Armstead and Ramczyk are a great duo but Terron’s injury history is concerning down the road. He is no doubt one of the best left tackles in the league. Warford has been a solid addition on the right and Peat has come into his own on the left, but there have been times where he has been inconsistent and needs to improve on that knowing he will be earning 9 million this year. Unger has been a stud since being acquired from Seattle. Ola provides veteran presence at tackle and guard. Tom and Clapp were solid when called upon and both are versatile at guard and center. Bushrod and LeRibeus are free agents who could return or be replaced. Wozniak is an interesting prospect as a converted tight end to tackle and it will be interesting to see him play during the pre-season.
Update: Max Unger officially retired on March 16, 2019
Free Agent Targets
There are not any big holes to be filled and re-signing our own free agents would be the best option unless someone younger comes along.
No need to trade future picks or current players for this position group that is set for a while.
No one really stands out as a go for player, maybe someone will be taken in the late rounds or undrafted.
Overall, the offensive line is probably the one group that does not need any adjustments or improvements. Unless the Saints have someone in mind they want to go after, I do not see them making any movements this year. Definitely a high level of comfort for the Who Dat Nation.
