Preseason Week 2 Summary: Saints vs Chargers

The New Orleans Saints defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 19-17 in the second preseason game. The Saints traveled to L.A. earlier this week to hold joint practices together, and finishing off the week with the head to head to match. Overall, the Saints did come away with the victory, there were moments of excitement, as well as areas to improve, but both to be expected from the second game of the preseason.

The Saints decided to sit Drew Brees and give Teddy Bridgewater the start. After a strong solid showing last week against the Vikings, Bridgewater struggled for most of the first half he played. He finished the day going 5/12 for 40 yards and 1 interception. The offense was not at it’s best, but the first team defense came to play and looked to be in mid season form. The Saints went into half time down 17-3.

The second half was a different story led by Taysom Hill and the spark he gave the team. Hill finished the day as the leading passer and rusher for the team. He went 11/15 for 136 yards, 2 touchdowns, and carrying the ball 5 times for 53 yards. The Saints held the Chargers scoreless for the second half allowing them to take the lead in the fourth quarter to win.

Next week the Saints will head to New York to face the Jets in the most important week 3 preseason game. The final dress rehearsal for most of the starters and most likely seeing the first team playing into the 3rd quarter.
