Preseason Week 1 Observations Sure To Be Wrong

Preseason game number one in the books makes it the official start to the 2018 NFL year. I could talk Saints players who impressed like Tre’Quan Smith, Jayrone Elliot and Davaroe Lawrence but my other ASC colleagues how covered it more than adequately. For my part I’m going to talk about rookies who are certain to make a impact or be out of the league in a couple of years, one or the other. That being said one game in the grand scheme of things means nothing.

Sam Darnold will end up being the best Jet quarterback since Chad Pennington, whatever it is, he has it. Browns signal caller Baker Mayfield has a real chance to be good if they don’t throw him to the wolves too early. If Josh Rosen gets an offensive line to help he will be good also, the other Josh in Buffalo I don’t think will make it. Saint receiver Tre’Quan Smith is a real playmaker, so is DJ Moore of the Panthers. Derrius Guice had an unfortunate injury but I have no doubt will come back next season and be a very good running back in the NFL. Dallas Goedert for the Eagles will be a nice player in the future, I wanted the Saints to draft him, but spilled milk and all.

On the other side former USC Trojans Uchenna Nwosu and Rasheem Green are making noise for the LA Chargers and Seattle Seahawks respectfully. Former Alabama linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton had 10 combo tackles for Washington and Texas rookie Deshon Elliot had 8 tackles and a forced fumble for the Ravens. Auburn rookie Jeff Holland had a sack while the number 3 overall pick and teammate Bradley Chubb had a lone tackle for the Broncos. The point is we won’t know until much later, maybe a few years if these players can become key contributors to these teams. Hell, Stanley – Jean Baptiste is playing good ball so far, YES that guy, SJB himself.
