Draft Profile: DK Metcalf

DK Metcalf was one of the top receiving prospects coming into 2019 because of his big body frame and ability as an X receiver to take the top off the defense. A neck injury forced him to play in only 7 games this year where he was still decently productive catching 5 touchdowns against top notch SEC defenses. The Saints won’t pick until late in the second round so to get a big play threat like DK that late would be a huge upgrade to the receiving core, which in turn could hopefully take some pressure off of Michael Thomas, Alvin Kamara and Drew Brees to create big plays in the passing game.

Positives: Great over the top speed; Great size at 6’3 225; Creates great separation after cutting and deep routes; Does a good job using his size and targeting the football and winning the ball at the point of contact

Weaknesses: Struggles with route running technique outside of anything vertical; Injury concern; Raw and fairly inexperienced; Catching technique could also use improving as there are times where he tends to catch the ball with his body and not his hands well enough
