Day One Down, Lots of Impact Prospects Available for the New Orleans Saints

With the first round of the NFL Draft complete, there are ample impactful and playmaking names left available as we enter where the real meat of 2019’s draft will be. Round 2, 3, and 4 will yield some of the most important selections in this year’s draft and the Saints, despite currently only having one selection through those rounds, are in prime position to take advantage of this board. Here are some of the players still available and their PFF Rankings:

That is just 20 of some of the top prospects remaining that the Saints could find themselves landing with at pick 62. According to Pro Football Focus, 26 of their Top 50 ranked players are still available. With only 30 selections from the top of the second round, New Orleans is in good position to land one of those prospects. If there’s someone that they really like, there’s always the potential to trade up into the second as well. I was pleased to see them not move into the first round because of the steep price they would have paid to do so, but now that the cost is a little cheaper the Saints may want to leap into action earlier than expected.

The Jets are rumored to be interested in jumping from the top of the third round to the top of the second. If that move takes place before the Saints get the chance to trade up, it could be a good barometer for what a leap up from 62 might cost.

Lots of great options available for the Saints whether they stand pat or not. Should be a fun day for Saints fans as an impact player in the second round looks almost surefire and if they decide to trade into the third round in addition, the pickings should look good there too.

My ideal scenario at the moment: While I loved my mock selections of Elgton Jenkins at 62 and trading up to grab JJ Arcega Whiteside at the top of the third. If the Saints can pull off a Hakeem Butler/Michael Deiter tandem, I’d be ecstatic.
