Every game matters at this point in the season. This game was big for both teams but the Saints came away with the victory. They came back from 14 points down to beat the Titans 38-28 in Nashville. The team started off slow but finished the game on a high note. The worst thing about the win is the amount of injuries that keep piling up on defense. Offense Keeps Rolling
The offense is clicking at the right time. This is the fifth time in the last six games they have scored 30 or more points. Drew Brees is playing at an elite level and does not seem to be declining whatsoever. They had a good balance in the play calling. Penalties came back but not enough to haunt them down the stretch.
Michael Thomas finally broke Marvin Harrison’s record for receptions in a season. This guy is phenomenal on and off the field. His Twitter handle is all that needs to be said. He ran a sweet route against Logan Ryan for the record breaker and nearly scored a touchdown. He would get his score two plays later to seal the win.
Jared Cook continues to bake up big plays. He has been on a roll the last few weeks. His 61 yard touchdown play late in the second quarter woke up the offense. He would also get another touchdown pass late in the third quarter. It is a great feeling to have a big threat at the tight end position.
Finally, Alvin Kamara got back into the end zone since Week 3. He had a great block on Cook’s first touchdown run and broke a 40 yard touchdown run to end his streak. This the Kamara we have been waiting to see. He got another score afterwards and finished with 110 yards total. The offense is heating up and needs to stay that way.
Defense Is Down But Not Out
Injuries are coming at the worst time for the Saints defense. Eli Apple and Marcus Williams both left the game and did not return. Kiko Alonso and Vonn Bell both missed this game as well. It was to the point the PJ Williams had to play safety. Nonetheless, they still held their own and finished strong.
Outside of the touchdown drives, this defense was stout the rest of the game. They sacked Ryan Tannehill five times, held AJ Brown to one catch and made plays in crunch time. CJ Gardner-Johnson continues to grow before our eyes. His explosiveness in the run game is on notice. He also caused a crucial turnover late in the game.
Patrick Robinson also deserves some credit. He had his best game since coming back to the team. He made several tackles and pass break up that essential sealed the deal. Also to note that Janoris Jenkins got a lot more playing time because of the injuries they suffered. The biggest take away is that even with all these setbacks, this defense is deep enough to keep the game at bay.
Overall, another great team win for the Saints. They keep their hopes alive for the #1 seed and a first round bye. Next week they finish the season against the Panthers, who have all but given up. Sean Payton has already said he will not rest starters. This team is something special and has a goal in mind and will do anything and everything to achieve it. Who Dat!
