Austin's Way Too Early 2018 Roster Predictions

We are still 3 months away from the first Pre-Season game of the 2018 NFL Season, and only Rookie Minicamp has surpassed us so far. But that doesn’t mean we can’t have a little fun predicting what the Saints roster will look like once Week 1 of the Regular Season gets here. Let’s start with the Number 1 rated offense first. Highlighted in bold below are the projected starters, followed by the depth behind them.

QB: Drew Brees, Tom Savage, JT Barrett

RB: Alvin Kamara, Boston Scott, Trey Edmunds, Mark Ingram

FB: Zach Line

WR: Michael Thomas, Cameron Meredith, Ted Ginn, Tre’Quan Smith, Brandon Coleman

TE: Ben Watson, Josh Hill, Michael Hoomanawanui, Deon Yelder

LT: Terron Armstead, Jermon Bushrod

LG: Andrus Peat, Landon Turner

C: Max Unger, Will Clapp

RG: Larry Warford, Landon Turner

RT: Ryan Ramczyk, Rick Leonard

I think the Saints will carry 3 quarterbacks this year, which leads me to thinking Barrett beats out Taysom Hill for the 3rd spot. But that battle could really go either way. Mark Ingram is 4th on the list at RB simply because he is suspended for the first 4 games of the season. After he serves his suspension, look for him to reclaim that 1-2 spot with Kamara, bumping Scott and Edmunds down to 3 and 4. At WR, I have Meredith as the Number 2 receiver, but with hopes that he will be fully healthy when the season begins. If he’s not, Ted Ginn will start out at 2 until Meredith recovers fully. Ben Watson is a familiar face we will see starting on the offense again, but keep an eye on Deon Yelder moving on up and getting some snaps this year. The offensive line will be the same as last year, but with different depth. Onto that rising defense.

LDE: Cameron Jordan, Trey Hendrickson

DT: Sheldon Rankins, David Onyemata

DT: Tyeler Davison, Jay Bromley

RDE: Marcus Davenport, Alex Okafor

WLB: Alex Anzalone, Nate Stupar

MLB: Demario Davis, Manti Teo, Nate Stupar

SLB: AJ Klein, Craig Robertson

CB: Marshon Lattimore, PJ Williams

FS: Marcus Williams, Vonn Bell

SS: Kurt Coleman, Natrell Jamerson

NB: Patrick Robinson

CB: Ken Crawley, Kamrin Moore, Justin Hardee

The defense will look very similar to last years, with really the only big changes being the addition of Marcus Davenport and the loss of Kenny Vaccaro. Whether Okafor is healthy to start the season or not, Davenport should be the starter. Davis will lock down the middle of the field for the linebackers, with Lattimore and Crawley once again on the outside at corner. Williams, Bell, and Coleman will all rotate getting snaps at safety, especially in the 3 safety look. All in all, the defense HAS to stay healthy this year for the Saints to make another run to the Super Bowl.

It sure will be interesting to see who makes the cut and who doesn’t, and how accurate this way too early depth chart is come Week 1.
